Position: Deputy Director of Nursing/RN, 75 hours bi-weekly

We invite qualified candidates to consider the full-time role of Deputy Director of Nursing (DDON)/RN at Seaforth Long Term Care Home, a 47-bed accredited facility dedicated to long-term care.

Reporting Structure: The DDON will report directly to the Director of Nursing (DON) and will play a pivotal role in supporting the management of all nursing care aspects within the establishment. This position is crucial for ensuring that residents receive high-quality care through the effective and efficient application of established standards, adhering to legislative and budgetary guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the DON in the execution and assessment of quality improvement initiatives within the nursing department, including risk management systems, data collection, analysis, and procedural updates.
  • Lead the coordination and execution of best practices and risk management strategies concerning resident care, such as falls prevention, restraint usage, and wound management.
  • Manage the utilization of nursing supplies effectively.
  • Oversee workflow and direct the activities of resident care providers.
  • Maintain a comprehensive system for care assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation at both the resident and unit program levels, maximizing staff resources and fostering an interdisciplinary approach to resident care.
  • Support the RAI-MDS program actively.
  • Maintain a visible presence in the Resident Home Areas, mentoring staff while ensuring the delivery of quality resident care.
  • Initiate investigative and corrective measures related to occupational health and safety; develop and monitor modified work programs for nursing staff.
  • Collaborate with the DON on special projects, reviews, and additional duties as assigned.
  • Assume responsibility for the nursing department in the absence of the Director of Nursing.

Qualifications:

  • Registered Nurse: BScN preferred.
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in long-term care is preferred; previous management experience is an asset.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of clinical issues affecting geriatric residents, infection control, adult education principles, and quality improvement practices.
  • Familiarity with RAI MDS is an asset.
  • Demonstrated exceptional leadership and organizational abilities, along with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and computerized resident care and assessment programs.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, current nursing practices, and healthcare standards; demonstrates a commitment to providing quality care and service to residents.
