Job Title: CBC Ombudsman

The CBC Ombudsman plays a crucial role in upholding the journalistic standards and practices of CBC/Radio-Canada. This position requires a high level of integrity, impartiality, and expertise in media ethics.

Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate complaints against CBC/Radio-Canada's Journalistic Standards and Practices in all news and information programs.
  • Independently assess journalistic issues and processes, ensuring fairness, accuracy, and balance.
  • Communicate the results of investigations to complainants, management, and journalists, maintaining confidentiality when necessary.
  • Consult with all parties to clarify and analyze issues, facilitating the resolution of complaints.
  • Remain independent, neutral, and impartial, exercising good judgment in all decision-making.
Requirements:
  • Recognized and extensive experience as a journalist.
  • Credibility and integrity with the Corporation's journalists, the wider journalistic community, and the public.
  • A reputation for dealing fairly, effectively, and in a timely fashion.
  • Ability to research and assess journalistic issues and processes.
  • Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing.
  • Familiarity with the Ombudsman role and function.
