Position OverviewVancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking dedicated individuals to fill the role of Health Care Support Worker, providing an opportunity to obtain your Care Aide registration.
Through the Health Career Access Program (HCAP), VCH is looking to recruit Health Care Support Workers. Successful candidates will have the chance to register as a Care Aide with the BC Care Aide and Community Health Worker Registry upon completing the training.
The Long-term Care and Assisted Living (HCAP LTC) program requires a commitment of 1.5 to 2 years. Candidates must be available for 37.5 hours per week, including mornings, evenings, and weekends throughout the program. There is also an opportunity to work as healthcare support workers for up to six months prior to commencing training. The educational component typically lasts eight months, and graduates are expected to fulfill a Return of Service Agreement for 12 months.
Funding for this program includes 100% coverage of wages, tuition, and textbooks.
As an applicant, you will be considered for positions at Long Term Care facilities across VCH for various cohorts.
As a Health Care Support Worker at Vancouver Coastal Health, your responsibilities will include:
- Working under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or another licensed healthcare professional.
- Providing a range of non-direct and/or non-clinical support to clients, residents, families, and visitors in long-term care, assisted living, and home environments, in accordance with established care plans and safety protocols.
Education & Experience
- Completion of Grade 10 (or equivalent).
- For candidates with three years of full-time English instruction: completion of English 10 or equivalent. For those with less than three years of full-time English instruction: a standardized English language proficiency test score may be required.
Knowledge & Skills
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to interact positively with others.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Physical capability to perform the duties of the position.
- Proficiency in operating relevant equipment.
Work hours, including days off and work locations, may vary based on operational needs and the provisions of the Collective Agreement. Successful candidates may need to undergo a Criminal Records Review Check. In accordance with current Public Health Orders, all employees of Vancouver Coastal Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or have received a single dose of the most recent updated COVID-19 vaccine. Proof of vaccination status will be required.
