The compensation for this role is CAD $24.80 per hour.

Position Overview

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking dedicated individuals for the role of Health Care Support Worker, with the opportunity to obtain Care Aide registration.

This position is part of the Health Career Access Program (HCAP), designed to provide training for aspiring Health Care Support Workers. Upon successful completion, candidates will be eligible for registration as a Care Aide with the BC Care Aide and Community Health Worker Registry.

The program requires a commitment of 1.5 to 2 years, with candidates expected to work 37.5 hours weekly, including mornings, evenings, and weekends. Prior to the educational component, candidates may work as healthcare support workers for up to six months. The training typically lasts eight months, followed by a 12-month Return of Service Agreement.

Funding for this program covers 100% of wages, tuition, and required materials.

As an applicant, you will be considered for positions at various Long Term Care sites across VCH for upcoming cohorts.

As a Health Care Support Worker at VCH, your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or another licensed healthcare professional.
  • Providing a range of non-clinical support services to clients, residents, families, and visitors in long-term care, assisted living, and home environments, in accordance with established care plans and safety protocols.
Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent.
  • For applicants with three years of full-time English instruction: completion of English 10 or equivalent. For those with less than three years, a standardized English language proficiency test score may be required.

Skills & Competencies

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact positively with others.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Physical capability to perform job duties.
  • Proficiency in operating relevant equipment.
Additional Information

Work hours, including days off and work locations, may vary based on operational needs and collective agreements. Successful candidates may need to undergo a Criminal Records Review Check. In accordance with current Public Health Orders, all employees of Vancouver Coastal Health must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have received the most recent updated vaccine. Proof of vaccination will be required.
