Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Patient Care Aide to join our team at Providence Health Care. As a Patient Care Aide, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to patients with complex mental health, neurological, and neurocognitive disorders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care and hygiene assistance to patients, including bathing, dressing, and grooming.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living, such as eating, mobilization, and toileting.
  • Carry out individualized and group social/leisure activities, such as arts and crafts, sports, and games.
  • Perform tasks assigned by nursing staff, including taking weights, collecting urine and stool specimens, and applying medicated creams and dressings.
  • Observe patients' health status and emotional expressions/behaviours, and report observations to nursing staff.
  • Establish a positive and courteous relationship with patients and their families, providing comfort and respecting personal choices.
  • Assist patients with meals and nourishments, and maintain a safe and respectful environment.

Requirements

  • Grade 10, graduation from a recognized Resident Care Attendant Program, and successful completion of an Acute Care Skills Program, or three (3) months recent, related experience in an acute care and/or mental health acute care environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work, and operate related equipment.
