JOB SUMMARY:

The Substance Use Support Specialist will deliver personalized assistance to individuals facing challenges related to substance use and concurrent mental health conditions through direct oversight and intervention. This role involves close collaboration with the Program Director.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manage assigned client care and maintain comprehensive client records while supervising individuals in residential treatment for substance use and concurrent mental health disorders.
  • Provide both individual and group therapy sessions, refer clients to clinical therapists, and educate residents about addiction within a therapeutic community framework.
  • Organize and lead educational workshops focusing on mental health and substance use topics.
  • Exhibit a thorough understanding of crisis intervention and the effects of trauma on mental health and substance use challenges.
  • Participate actively in staff meetings and case discussions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Completion of Grade 12, with a diploma or degree in community support work, addiction services, or relevant post-secondary education such as counseling or social work. Other related qualifications will also be considered.
  • Experience in a residential treatment environment is advantageous.
  • Awareness and understanding of Indigenous history, culture, practices, and beliefs.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and supportive counseling abilities.
  • Experience working with at-risk or vulnerable populations.
  • Capability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient conflict resolution skills.
  • Organizational and planning capabilities, along with sound decision-making skills.
  • Commitment to treating all participants with dignity and respect.
