Manager of Environmental Services

Southbridge Care Homes is a prominent operator of long-term care facilities and retirement communities in Southwestern Ontario. We are currently seeking an Environmental Services Manager to oversee our long-term care home in Port Perry, ON.
Position Overview:
The Environmental Services Manager plays a crucial role in ensuring the maintenance and servicing of our facility, creating a safe and welcoming environment for both residents and staff. This position involves managing the housekeeping, laundry, and maintenance departments to uphold high standards of cleanliness and sanitation, as well as providing quality linen services. This is a full-time, permanent position requiring 60 hours of work bi-weekly.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct regular inspections of the facility to identify maintenance and servicing needs, performing repairs as necessary.
- Document and implement preventative maintenance programs to ensure operational efficiency.
- Carry out mechanical maintenance and repairs on equipment, including plumbing and electrical systems.
- Coordinate with external contractors for specialized work, overseeing their performance and ensuring compliance with contractual obligations.
- Perform various tasks around the facility as needed, adhering to policies regarding the upkeep of the home, including grounds maintenance.
- Assist the Executive Director in hiring and managing departmental staff, including training and development initiatives.
- Supervise contractor work to ensure adherence to contractual agreements.
- Prepare and manage departmental budgets, including inventory management and procurement of supplies and equipment.
- Actively participate in leadership team activities, including team meetings and reporting.
- Oversee the quality and quantity of services provided by departmental staff, ensuring high standards are met.
- Implement and maintain departmental safety programs as part of daily operations.
- Maintain accurate records, statistics, and reports in compliance with home policies and applicable regulations.
- Two-year post-secondary diploma or degree in Environmental Services/Building Services Management or a related field.
- Knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, plumbing, carpentry, and HVAC systems.
- Experience in a managerial or supervisory role.
- Formal training in building maintenance is advantageous.
- Health and safety certification is a plus.
- Familiarity with evidence-based practices related to housekeeping, laundry, and maintenance.
- Experience in a maintenance role within a long-term care or similar setting is preferred.
- Experience in managing human and financial resources is beneficial.
- Effective communication skills in both English and French are preferred.
- Ability to complete a vulnerable sector check.
- Willingness to work day shifts with on-call responsibilities.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the job, including standing for extended periods, bending, and lifting.
