About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Specialist, Financial Reporting to join our Chief Financial Team at Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC). As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in providing strategic financial advice to management, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of our financial records, and implementing process improvements.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Financial Reporting and Analysis: Provide strategic advice to management on financial results, accounting policies, and complex accounting matters to support financial decision-making.
  2. Accounting Records and Reconciliations: Develop accurate and complete accounting records and reconciliations, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and maintaining robust internal control over financial reporting.
  3. Financial Statement Preparation: Prepare and review CMHC's annual consolidated financial statements, quarterly Financial Report, and other government reporting in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Treasury Board standards.
  4. Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of our financial reporting processes.
  5. Mentorship and Guidance: Provide mentorship and guidance to Analysts and Specialists on financial reporting and analysis.
  6. Project Collaboration: Collaborate with diverse project teams as the finance expert, including new program/product implementation, new accounting standard impact assessment, and implementation of new tools.
Requirements
  1. Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  2. Professional Designation: Professional accounting designation (minimum Chartered Professional Accountant).
  3. Experience: Minimum of seven (7) years of relevant work experience in financial reporting or similar experience.
  4. Skills: Demonstrated work experience in designing and implementing new accounting policies, assessing impact, and writing complete memos on highly complex accounting matters. Strong project management and cross-functional team leadership skills.
  5. Knowledge: Knowledge of relevant financial, legislative, and regulatory environments. Excellent ability to gather and analyze information, synthesize key elements, and summarize with recommendations.
  6. Communication: Strong written and oral communication skills, including presentation, influencing, negotiation, and networking skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Advanced Education: MBA or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or any other professional designation(s), relevant license, or certificate in a related field.
  2. IFRS Knowledge: Strong knowledge of complex IFRS standards.
