Position Overview
With over 140 years in the industry, Aecon's legacy in construction and infrastructure development is profound. Our Construction division encompasses all facets of public and private infrastructure projects across Civil, Urban Transportation, Nuclear, Utility, and Conventional Industrial sectors. While we primarily operate in Canada, we selectively engage in international projects.

We cultivate relationships with Indigenous communities based on trust, respect, and understanding, acting as a responsible and respectful business partner. We work closely with community leaders and members to create and nurture meaningful and beneficial opportunities. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Indigenous Relations, the Indigenous Relations Specialist will support the Indigenous Relations Team in various activities and projects across Aecon's construction sectors.

Key Responsibilities

Assist in the execution of Aecon's Indigenous Relations Strategy. Support the development of community relations and partnership initiatives with Indigenous enterprises. Collaborate with functional teams to coordinate procurement, employment, and training opportunities for projects. Serve as a liaison between project teams and Indigenous partners to facilitate project commitments and communications. Manage filing and recordkeeping. Plan, maintain, and report on engagement initiatives as necessary. Aid in the implementation of Aecon's Indigenous awareness and recognition programs. Provide support for proposals and communications. Oversee administrative tasks related to Indigenous Participation Plans and associated reporting. Engage in relationship-building opportunities, including conferences and offsite events, to foster productive working relationships with Indigenous communities. Travel as required.

Qualifications

Post-secondary education in Political Science, Communications, Indigenous Studies, Business, or a related field from a recognized institution, or a combination of education and experience. A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in Indigenous engagement, research, consulting, or familiarity with Indigenous culture, governance systems, and history; lived experience and knowledge of an Indigenous language are assets. Experience working with diverse populations. Familiarity with general project communications and/or community engagement is considered an asset. Proficient computer skills, including MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.). Willingness to travel to project sites or Indigenous communities and work a flexible schedule. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential. Strong business writing skills are crucial. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in various settings, ensuring messages are delivered with the intended impact, including discussions on sensitive topics. Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure with multiple deadlines and tasks. Indigenous candidates are encouraged to apply.
