This is an exciting opportunity to join the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks as a Senior Advisor - Indigenous Policy and Programs. In this role, you will provide strategic advice and expertise to the Ministry on building relationships with Indigenous peoples and supporting the development of policies and programs that promote reconciliation and awareness of Indigenous issues and concerns.
Key Responsibilities- Provide advice and guidance on engagement and consultation with Indigenous communities and organizations on Ministry policy and program development and activities that may impact on Indigenous and treaty rights and/or interests.
- Develop and implement strategies to enhance participation of Indigenous partners and facilitate the application of an Indigenous inclusion lens to policy and program development.
- Plan, lead, facilitate, or participate in consultations and engagements with Indigenous communities and organizations, including the development of agreements for relationship funding, consultation and engagement.
- Provide strategic advice, direction and management in the development, evaluation and implementation of new/revised programs and policy.
- Knowledge of the issues facing Indigenous communities in Ontario and an ability to gain the knowledge of and understand the implications of Ontario's corporate Indigenous policies, frameworks and related Ministry policies, practices, standards and legislation.
- Excellent communication skills to develop and maintain effective and positive working relationships with Indigenous communities, as well as internal and external stakeholders.
- Well-developed relationship management skills to consult effectively with Indigenous communities and organizations, as well as internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to demonstrate judgement and discretion to provide expertise and advice to Ministry decision-makers and senior management regarding emerging/anticipated major and/or contentious issues.
