Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Health Care Social Worker to join our team at the Nova Scotia Health Authority. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will provide comprehensive social work services to patients and their families, promoting optimal health and well-being.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough psychosocial assessments to identify patient needs and develop effective intervention plans.
  • Provide individual and group therapy sessions to support patients and their families in coping with various health-related challenges.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to develop and implement comprehensive care plans that address the physical, emotional, and social needs of patients.
  • Advocate for patients and their families, ensuring their rights and interests are respected and protected.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community resources and organizations to provide patients with access to necessary support services.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and outcomes.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Social Work from a recognized university.
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers.
  • Two years of clinical experience as a social worker, preferably in a healthcare setting.
  • Strong counselling and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse patient populations.
  • Capacity to work autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of issues related to family violence, sexual abuse, addictions, grief and loss, end of life, disability, crisis intervention, caregiving, and continuum of care.
  • Competencies in other languages, particularly French, are an asset.
Working Conditions
  • Long assignment, full-time position, 75 hours bi-weekly.
  • Approximately an 18-month assignment.
Compensation and Benefits

Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.

The hourly rate for this position is $37.31 - $49.05, depending on experience.
