Engineering Co-op for Smart Factory Digitization

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Engineering Co-op to join our Smart Factory Digitization team at Johnson Electric. As a Co-op, you will have the opportunity to work on exciting projects that transform existing manufacturing processes into modern digitized processes using IIOT and other modern computer hardware and software tools.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Assist in the Development of Digitization Projects: Assist and code the development of Python, Django, JavaScript, HTML, database, SQL, and other apps to digitize the shop floor.
  2. Automated Process Data Acquisition and Control: Develop automated process data acquisition and control of equipment.
  3. Independent Work and Initiative: Work independently while taking initiative where appropriate from the office to the shop floor.
  4. Collaboration with Production and Technical Support: Work closely with production and technical support resources and suppliers to ensure timely completion of projects.
  5. Knowledge and Skills Development: Develop knowledge and skills to be recognized for expertise and functional leadership in application of engineering principles, scientific analysis, continuous improvement, and project management.
  6. Flexibility and Adaptability: Must be willing to work any assigned daily shift, weekends, and overtime as required.
  7. Continuous Improvement Initiatives: Coordinate continuous improvement initiatives.
  8. Maintenance and Development of Equipment: May help maintain and develop equipment utilizing machine learning techniques.
  9. Compliance with Company Policies: Works in compliance with Johnson Electric Canada Quality and EHS Policies and Procedures, including IATF 16949 / ISO 9001 / ISO 14001.
Requirements
  1. Education: Engineering, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Computer Programming student in a University or College program, or similar, with preference for automotive parts or manufacturing background.
  2. Student Status: Preference is for students in the latter years of their program.
  3. Computer Skills: Excellent computer skills and experience using modern computer techniques (Python, Django, JavaScript, HTML).
  4. Open Source Experience: Experience with open source software, hardware, and techniques.
  5. Machine Learning: Considered an asset.
  6. Database and Data Manipulation: Database and data manipulation skills with SQL, Python, csv, etc.
  7. Operating System Knowledge: Knowledge of Windows OS, Linux OS, and IIOT devices.
  8. Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
