Internal Communications Coordinator

Position Overview
Halifax Independent School (HIS) is on the lookout for a dedicated individual to enhance our communication and marketing strategies both internally and externally. This role is newly established at Halifax Independent, allowing for growth and adaptation based on the skills of the chosen candidate and the evolving needs of the school community. While the position primarily requires on-site presence, we are open to discussing hybrid work options.

Key Responsibilities
The Internal Communications Coordinator will play a vital role in the daily management and execution of the school's communication strategies. This individual will safeguard and enhance the school's reputation through effective public relations initiatives aimed at brand development, event promotion, internal and external communications, and website oversight. They will engage key stakeholders through impactful storytelling and targeted communication strategies, supporting HIS in achieving its vision and amplifying its positive influence on education and the wider community.
By highlighting the achievements of students, staff, and alumni, the Internal Communications Coordinator will collaborate with the communications team to portray the dynamic culture and thoughtful leadership at HIS, showcasing the significant contributions that define our institution.
The Internal Communications Coordinator will report directly to the Headteacher and will assist the Headteacher, board members, and both administrative and teaching staff.
Core Duties Include:
- Basic design tasks
- Content creation, primarily for web platforms
- Supporting the creative development, coordination, scheduling, production, and distribution of various internal and external communication materials
- Website management and content creation
- Assisting in the organization of events, including planning and preparation of communication materials
- Coordinating online and in-person events, providing support on the day of the event
- Photography or managing photography/videography for school events
- Organizing and maintaining photo/video archives
- Addressing basic IT support inquiries from parents, students, and staff
- Managing access to Google Workspace documents and assisting with parent/staff access issues
- Maintaining the school's social media calendar and developing content
- Utilizing social media to promote school events, milestones, and news
- Handling general email and website inquiries
- Engaging with alumni
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related field
- 1-3 years of relevant experience in a similar role
- Experience in internal and external communications, social media strategy, basic design, writing, event management, and basic IT knowledge
- Familiarity with collaborative digital resources, including managing access to documents and media files
- Exceptional writing skills, particularly for web content
- Strong organizational and technical abilities
- Professional demeanor suitable for a pre-primary to grade 9 educational environment
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with staff, students, parents, and alumni
- Ability to work well in a team-oriented and dynamic setting, with a willingness to assist where needed
- Availability for occasional evening and weekend work for meetings and special events
- Current results from a Criminal Record Check with VSS and a Child Abuse Registry Check upon hiring
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a Google Workspace environment
- Basic photography/videography skills
- Familiarity with design tools like Canva
- Experience with email marketing platforms such as Mailerlite
- Possession of a driver's license and access to a vehicle

Compensation: $24.00-$28.00 per hour
