Organizational Context:
The Diamond Bailey Healing Centre (DBHC) is a pioneering establishment operated by the Mi'kmaw Native Friendship Centre (MNFC), addressing the pressing needs of the Urban Indigenous Community. This facility is dedicated to providing Indigenous-led, trauma-informed, and culturally relevant healing programs alongside stable housing, deeply rooted in Indigenous traditions and practices. The DBHC aims to equip clients with the necessary teachings and resources to foster healing, maintain a balanced lifestyle in accordance with the principles of the medicine wheel, and achieve housing stability.
We are seeking a dedicated full-time Indigenous Client Relations Liaison who will work overnight shifts to support urban Indigenous clients at the Diamond Bailey Healing Centre. This role involves ensuring that clients receive comprehensive support throughout their healing journey. The ICRL will undertake various administrative, clerical, and reception duties, while also facilitating effective communication of client needs, inquiries, and referrals to the appropriate personnel. This position is dynamic and collaborative, requiring the ICRL to support the overall operations of the DBHC and work closely with interdepartmental programs and services to address the needs of community members.
Key Responsibilities:
Administrative Duties:
- Welcome and guide all community members, visitors, and the general public at the Diamond Bailey Healing Centre.
- Handle incoming calls and messages, addressing inquiries to assist community members.
- Perform essential administrative tasks, providing information and assistance to clients and those with general inquiries.
- Manage office supplies and equipment, ensuring availability and ordering as needed.
- Maintain accurate client files, records, and documentation.
- Update the MNFC's database system daily, ensuring all client information is current.
- Uphold confidentiality of all records and files, disclosing information only as authorized.
Client Support Responsibilities:
- Channel complaints, inquiries, and requests from community members and clients to the relevant coordinators or managers.
- Collaborate with the Diamond Bailey Manager and Coordinators to ensure clients receive extensive support in balancing their medicine wheels and meeting their needs.
- Work closely with DBHC staff and MNFC programs to provide referral support and direct inquiries appropriately.
- Foster a positive and engaging atmosphere with clients to encourage participation.
- Build collaborative relationships with MNFC and DBHC coordinators to address the holistic needs of Indigenous clients, following the teachings of the medicine wheel.
- Assist in the client orientation process, including facility tours and document signing.
- Support coordinators with tasks such as security checks, appointment reminders, and programming facilitation.
- Inform clients about all available programs and services from MNFC and external resources tailored to Indigenous clientele.
- Collaborate with interdepartmental staff to ensure equitable access to resources and services, including housing, harm reduction, education, and cultural supports.
- Assist coordinators and management by ensuring client referrals are communicated respectfully and positively.
Communication Duties:
- Keep communication boards updated with relevant information, including job postings and community events.
- Post community events on social media platforms.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Maintain a workplace environment that respects the cultural and holistic needs of Indigenous clients.
- Exemplify positive leadership through trauma-informed and non-judgmental support.
- Ensure office equipment is managed appropriately and conduct security checks before leaving the premises.
- Utilize conflict resolution skills to de-escalate situations as needed.
- Commit to the development of the MNFC and engage in internal committees and projects.
- Participate in professional development opportunities as required.
- Adhere to all MNFC and DBHC policies and procedures.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Implement emergency triage measures when necessary.
Qualifications:
- Diploma or certification in community social services or a related field is an asset.
- 2-3 years of experience working with vulnerable populations or a combination of education and experience.
- Experience with Indigenous communities and cultural knowledge is highly valued.
- Administrative or business management experience is beneficial.
- Knowledge of community resources, programs, and services is essential.
- Customer service experience and strong communication skills are advantageous.
- Proven ability to guide individuals and apply new practices in client interactions based on Indigenous cultural models.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of an interprofessional team.
- Demonstrated independence and initiative in work.
- Flexibility in working varied shifts based on community needs.
- Ability to represent and respect client interests effectively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint).
- Successful candidates must provide a Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector Check) and proof of First Aid & Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification as a condition of employment. Training may be provided.
