About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanical Superintendent to join our team at Kiewit. As a Mechanical Superintendent, you will be responsible for overseeing the mechanical aspects of our construction projects, ensuring that they are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Supervision: Supervise and develop junior superintendents, ensuring that they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
- Project Management: Manage labor composite rate balances for foremen, journeyman, and workers, ensuring that projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Contract Administration: Administer contracts and subcontractor/field manager meetings, ensuring that all parties are aware of their responsibilities and deadlines.
- Client Relationships: Create a program to maintain positive client relationships through site personnel involvement, ensuring that clients are satisfied with the quality of work and the level of service provided.
- Communication: Organize and participate in additional and regular client meetings to resolve issues and ensure planning, ensuring that all parties are informed and up-to-date.
- Financial Management: Oversee and approve monthly project cost updates and quarterly cash flow projections, ensuring that projects are financially viable and that costs are under control.
- Change Management: Review, approve, and negotiate change orders, ensuring that changes are made in a timely and efficient manner.
- Project Completion: Develop and implement project completion and turnover plan, ensuring that projects are completed to the highest quality standards and that clients are satisfied.
- Record-Keeping: Maintain a daily journal for record-keeping, ensuring that all project information is accurately recorded and easily accessible.
- Performance Evaluations: Ensure timely performance evaluations of direct reports, ensuring that employees are aware of their strengths and weaknesses and that they are given the opportunity to improve.
- Organizational Development: Recommend organizational, policy, procedure, or personnel changes as needed, ensuring that the organization is operating efficiently and effectively.
- Promotions: Review and approve or reject promotions up to general foreman level, ensuring that promotions are made based on merit and that employees are given the opportunity to advance their careers.
Requirements:
- Experience: Minimum 8 years of construction experience, with at least 3 years as a mechanical superintendent or management member.
- Discipline: Ability to oversee multiple disciplines (steel, piping, mechanical).
- Autonomy: Autonomous, highly motivated, and able to work with minimal supervision.
- Rapid Learning: Rapid learning and understanding of Kiewit's policies, procedures, and software.
- Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving and organizational, administrative, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Leadership: Extensive experience in leadership, safety, negotiations, planning, and contract administration.
- Language: Fluency in French (written and verbal) required.
- English: Functional knowledge of English (written and verbal) considered an asset due to inter-province mobility.

- Communication: Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or as part of a team.
- Safety: Work safely and efficiently, understanding and following verbal and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment usage instructions, and other policies.
- Work Schedule: Work during normal business hours to organize and complete work within scheduled deadlines. Overtime and weekend work may be required as needed.
- Work Location: Work location and conditions may vary.
