Position Overview

We are seeking a full-time adult inpatient Psychiatrist to commence work immediately.

You will be integrated into a committed interdisciplinary team that encompasses psychology, mental health crisis nursing, social work, occupational therapy, recreational therapy, horticultural therapy, and addiction services support.

This is a full-time role (35 hours per week) and offers options for either a salaried or incorporated position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee clinical responsibilities for assigned patients, including their admission, assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, daily care, and discharge.
  • Provide clinical care that includes the diagnosis and management of psychiatric disorders, concurrent substance use disorders, along with medication management, withdrawal management, and psychotherapeutic interventions.
  • Ensure ongoing supervision and management of clinical/patient care through daily rounds and adequate individual assessments to uphold patient care standards.
  • Collaborate with fellow physicians, nursing staff, and allied health professionals to deliver optimal patient care within an interdisciplinary framework.
  • Complete comprehensive documentation, including admission history, mental status evaluations, diagnostic impressions, treatment plans, weekly progress notes, and detailed discharge summaries to ensure meaningful medical records and effective treatment planning.
  • Utilize electronic medical platforms such as Caseworks and BDM (training will be provided).
  • Offer clinical guidance to the program and the admitting department for timely and appropriate referrals and admissions.
  • Maintain and implement best practice standards of clinical care.
  • Support colleagues with patient coverage during physician absences (with NP support).
  • Ensure timely completion and submission of OHIP billings.
  • Ability to provide ECT treatment to patients at the facility once per month is an asset, but not mandatory.

Qualifications:

  • A specialist certification in Psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPS) (C) or an equivalent body recognized by the RCPS (C) and in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
  • Ability to inspire accountability through actions, decisions, and communication.

  • Proven skills in negotiation and influence, along with critical thinking, analysis, and complex problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly developed organizational and time-management skills.
  • Experience in teaching and research.
  • A passion for delivering outstanding patient-centered and clinical care.
  • Expertise in fostering integrated care that involves both mental health and addictions.
  • A demonstrated commitment to the infection prevention and control needs of the healthcare environment.
