Overview

Term: 1 year

The Research Associate II will operate within a collaborative academic environment to support the Principal Investigator and other research personnel with a variety of research initiatives. This role is situated within the Psychology department and encompasses numerous research assistance responsibilities pertinent to ongoing projects and activities.

The Research Associate II will aid the Principal Investigator with administrative functions and, as required, contribute to research and administrative tasks across diverse projects within the Hart lab.

This position is contingent on funding.

Responsibilities

Research Assistance:

  • Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: Operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting standard research apparatus.
  • Managing inventory of essential research materials and supplies.
  • Participating in experimental procedures or research activities by executing specific assigned tasks, such as data collection.
  • Organizing and preserving documentation, experimental records, and data, including electronic files and backups.
  • Assisting in the analysis and interpretation of experimental outcomes or research data through tasks such as assembly, compilation, and summarization of statistical and other relevant data.
  • Engaging in the organization and recruitment of research participants.
  • Contributing to the creation of research-related documents, including ethics submissions, journal articles, and dissemination of research findings.
  • May allocate work assignments to employees or students and provide general onboarding regarding policies, procedures, and equipment operation.
  • Assisting with special projects and other administrative responsibilities related to the research.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a post-secondary degree or equivalent education and experience.
  • A degree in a field related to Psychology, Education, or a similar discipline is preferred.
  • A minimum of one year of demonstrated experience in an academic research environment is preferred.
  • A minimum of one year of demonstrated experience in administrative support is preferred.
  • Proven ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Familiarity with University of Waterloo policies and procedures is advantageous.
  • Intermediate computer skills and proficiency in software applications commonly used in an office/lab environment, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Demonstrated high-quality customer service interactions with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Proven attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated decision-making abilities, including the capacity to ask insightful questions and anticipate the needs of others.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
