Mental Health Nurse

**Education and Experience:**
We are seeking a qualified Mental Health Nurse with a minimum of one year's recent psychiatric nursing experience working with adults with a variety of mental disorders. A minimum of six months of experience supporting mental health clients in a community setting or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience is required.
**Registration and Certification:**
Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant or a practicing RPN registrant is mandatory. Current CPR certification is also required.

- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing;
- **Nursing Skills:**
- Demonstrated ability to use the nursing process in mental health treatment programs, including assessment, planning, implementation, decision-making, organization, prioritization, evaluation, and communication as required;
- **Medication Administration:**
- Ability to administer and monitor the side effects of psychotropic medications;
- **Community Work:**
- Ability to work independently in a community setting;
- **Teamwork:**
- Ability to work effectively and cooperatively in a team environment;
- **Initiative and Leadership:**
- Demonstrated ability to practice initiative, good interpersonal, crisis intervention, leadership, and teaching skills, and effective communication and counseling with individuals, families, and groups;
- **Critical Thinking and Problem Solving:**
- Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
- **Conflict Resolution:**
- Ability to manage aggressive behavior and to use non-violent crisis intervention and behavioral management techniques where appropriate;
- **Adaptability:**
- Ability to adapt and accept change as the program evolves;
- **Physical Ability:**
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the job;
- **Technical Skills:**
- Ability to operate related equipment and applicable computer systems;
- **Transportation:**
- Valid Class 5 BC driver's license and use of a personal vehicle available to travel between work sites.
