Position Overview

This role serves as a foundation for sophisticated clinical interventions and ongoing collaboration with primary care providers. Consultations involve recommending potential treatments and strategies to improve client care and outcomes.

The position entails advanced clinical practice and interventions related to intake, assessment, crisis management, education, treatment, harm reduction consultation, and referrals for clients facing mental health, substance use, and/or concurrent disorder challenges, as well as issues linked to the social determinants of health.

Extensive consultation with primary care providers is a key component of this role, alongside referrals to community resources when necessary, addressing the psychosocial and social determinants of mental health and substance use relevant to clients' needs.

This role provides harm reduction services, immediate support, assessment, and referral for clients within a trauma-informed and culturally sensitive framework.

Qualifications: Education, Training, and Experience

A Master's Degree in a health-related field from an accredited post-secondary institution is required.

A minimum of two (2) years of recent relevant experience is essential, along with recognized post-basic education related to mental health, including experience in crisis intervention, urgent response, short-term therapy, and group psychotherapy, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

A profound understanding of mental health and substance use issues, substance use assessments, the change process, community dynamics, and the impacts of social determinants of health is crucial. Familiarity with applicable legislation such as the Mental Health Act and the Adult Guardianship Act is necessary. Experience collaborating with primary care providers is also required. A valid BC Driver's License is mandatory.

  13. Proven assessment, care planning, and coordination skills.
  14. Aptitude for fostering positive public relations.
  15. Ability to operate relevant equipment, including personal computers with various Windows-based software.
  16. Physical capability to perform the duties associated with the position.
