Job Summary

The Salvation Army is seeking a skilled Community and Family Services Worker to join our team. As a key member of our community services team, you will provide critical support to individuals and families in need, working closely with government and social service agencies to ensure seamless service delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough intake assessments to identify client needs and develop personalized support plans.
  • Provide emergency assistance services, including food, clothing, and household essentials, in accordance with Salvation Army policies.
  • Organize and deliver seasonal programs, such as the Christmas Hamper and Food Drive, ensuring a spiritual focus and alignment with ministry objectives.
  • Oversee the food bank, ensuring adequate stock levels, cleanliness, and efficient client processing.
  • Network and refer clients to relevant community resources, fostering strong partnerships with government and social service agencies.
Supervision and Training
  • Support, train, and schedule volunteers, promoting a collaborative work environment and enhancing the ministries of The Salvation Army.
  • Assist in developing strategies for volunteer development and may organize regular meetings with volunteers.
Finance and Administration
  • Ensure secure handling of monetary donations and maintain accurate records of client information, gift cards, and vouchers.
  • Maintain written records, logs of activities, and statistical information, periodically reviewing program assistance guidelines with the supervisor.
  • Monitor and manage costs, providing input for budgeting guidelines as required.
Health and Safety
  • Ensure the food bank and surrounding area are maintained to Public Health standards, promoting a safe and healthy environment.
  • Adhere to OH&S Act and Regulations, as well as The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.
Working Conditions
  • This is a permanent full-time position, requiring 37.5 hours per week, with flexibility in scheduling and occasional evening and weekend work.
  • The working environment is generally agreeable, with occasional travel to various locations throughout Perth County.
Qualifications and Education
  • Completion of a Community College Diploma in Social Service Work, Counselling, or a related field.
  • Valid Safe Food Handlers Certification and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certificate preferred.
Experience and Knowledge
  • Minimum two years of related experience, including work with multi-barriered individuals with mental health issues.
  • Knowledge of community-based resources and experience networking with government and social service agencies.

  • Strong sense of integrity, confidentiality, and professional ethics.
  • Self-motivated, disciplined, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
