Position Overview:

Under the direction of the Municipal Engineer within the Infrastructure Planning Division, the Construction Project Coordinator is tasked with ensuring quality assurance throughout the execution of capital projects. Typical assignments encompass: watermain rehabilitation, asphalt resurfacing, culvert replacements, and comprehensive road reconstruction initiatives that involve storm and sanitary sewer replacements, watermain installations, asphalt paving, and concrete work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation of tender documentation and construction estimates.
  • Coordinate and lead construction meetings, ensuring effective communication among all stakeholders.
  • Supervise and inspect capital projects and contractors to ensure compliance with project specifications.
  • Conduct fieldwork, including project oversight and inspections for capital construction projects and culvert assessments.
  • Provide quality assurance inspections for capital projects to verify that materials and completed works align with contract stipulations.
  • Confirm quantities of completed works and prepare monthly progress payments.
  • Review pre-construction documentation submitted by contractors, including but not limited to spill contingency plans, sediment and erosion control plans, construction staging plans, and health and safety plans.
  • Maintain accurate survey field books, as-built drawings, and daily site diaries.
  • Collaborate with utility companies, specialty construction inspectors, and material testing services as necessary.
  • Assist in the formulation of construction notices, change orders, and site instructions.
  • Act as a liaison between contractors and City staff, coordinating construction meetings and documenting minutes.
  • Monitor safety protocols on construction sites.
  • Engage in other special projects and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Possess a post-secondary diploma in Civil Engineering Technology.
  • Extensive supervisory experience in civil construction may be considered in lieu of a diploma.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of municipal construction inspection experience, particularly in roadway, sewer, and watermain projects.
  • Knowledge of surveying practices, including construction layout, and proficiency in using construction levels.
  • Ability to perform construction documentation, ensure compliance with specifications, and prepare progress payments.
  • Capable of reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
  • Exhibit a professional demeanor and the ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal, organizational, customer service, and public relations skills.
  • Must hold and maintain a valid unrestricted Class G Driver's License, as driving a corporate vehicle is required.
