Description: 

Reporting to the Municipal Engineer, Infrastructure Planning Division, the Project Supervisor is responsible for providing quality assurance duties during the construction of capital projects. Typical projects include: watermain lining, asphalt resurfacing, culvert replacements and full road reconstruction projects consisting of storm and sanitary sewer replacements, watermain installations, asphalt paving and concrete works. The Project Supervisor is responsible for assisting in preparing tender documentation, completing construction estimates, coordinating construction meetings, the supervision and inspection of capital projects and contractors, completing special projects and performing related duties as required.  

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Possess post-secondary Civil Engineering Technology college diploma; 

  • Extensive civil construction supervisory experience may be considered in lieu of College level diploma in Civil Engineering Technology; 

  • Possess a minimum of two (2) years municipal construction inspection experience, such as with roadway, sewer and watermain projects; 

  • Have knowledge of survey practices including construction layout and be proficient with use of construction level; 

  • Able to perform construction documentation, establish compliance with construction specifications, determine quantity measurement and preparation of progress payments; 

  • Able to read and interpret engineering drawings; 

  • Demonstrate professional attitude and able to work independently; 

  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal, organizational, customer service and public relations skills. 

  • Must possess and maintain a valid unrestricted Class G Driver’s License, as you will be required to drive a corporate vehicle. 

General Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Complete field work including project supervision and inspection for capital construction projects, culvert inspections and other field duties as assigned;

  • Provide quality assurance inspection for capital projects to ensure materials and works completed are in accordance with contract documents;

  • Confirm quantities of completed works and prepare monthly progress payments;

  • Review pre-construction documentation provided by the contractors including but not limited to spills contingency plans, sediment and erosion control plans, construction staging plans, excess fill management plans, shop drawings, schedules, health and safety plans, temporary watermain plans, and sewage by-pass plans;

  • Prepare accurate survey field books, as-builts and daily site diaries;

  • Coordinate with utilities, specialty construction inspections, and material testing as required;

  • Assist in the preparation of construction notices, change orders and site instructions; 

  • Liaise between contractors and other City staff including coordinating construction meetings, take meeting-minutes;

  • Assist in preparing tender documents and completing construction cost estimates;

  • Monitor construction site safety; 

  • Other special projects and duties as may be assigned.
