Key Responsibilities

As a Writing Consultant, your primary duties will include:

Providing individualized tutoring to undergraduate students in writing skills through one-on-one sessions, drop-in hours, workshops, and group writing sessions. Assisting students with their academic writing assignments and other professional writing requirements. Instructing on writing techniques such as thesis development, argument construction, writing style, academic citation practices, ethical scholarship, scholarly research integration, critical reading, analytical writing, and outlining. Keeping detailed records of student attendance and feedback after each session using the designated online platform. Creating and updating writing resources, including handouts and workshop materials. Cultivating a supportive atmosphere for students facing academic challenges and directing them to additional resources as needed. Participating in training sessions and attending regular meetings throughout the term.

Required Qualifications:

Prior tutoring experience is preferred. Strong academic record. Proficient command of the English language. Experience with multilingual students is an asset. Enrollment in a Master’s program (1st or 2nd year) or a PhD program is required.

Note: Preference will be given to Doctoral candidates, followed by Master’s candidates.

Application Process:

Candidates selected for an interview will be contacted. This role involves direct interaction with students, providing personalized assistance for academic writing tasks, conducting workshops, and developing educational resources.

Compensation:

Contract Hours Breakdown:

95.00 Hours/Term for consulting, leading workshops, and resource development.
5.00 Hours/Term for training and supervisor meetings.

100.00 Total Estimated Hours of Work*

* Hours are flexible and will depend on student demand throughout the semester. Actual hours may vary based on qualifications and the determined pay rate. CUPE-3 employees may work up to a maximum of 130 hours per semester or 390 hours per academic year. Employment is not guaranteed, and no pay or benefits will be provided when not on assignment.
