Position Overview:

Alberta Health Services is dedicated to providing exceptional care for individuals with acquired brain injuries. Our facility, the Halvar Jonson Centre for Brain Injury, is a 48-bed establishment that employs a collaborative approach to rehabilitation. The role of the Therapy Assistant is integral to our expanding service, emphasizing professional growth and high standards of care. Under the guidance of an Occupational Therapist and reporting to the Unit Manager, the Therapy Assistant will be responsible for implementing tailored interventions for both individuals and groups, maintaining treatment areas, managing supply orders, and organizing storage solutions. Key Responsibilities:

As a Therapy Assistant, you will engage in both independent and collaborative work as part of a multidisciplinary team, following the directives of an audiologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, recreation therapist, or speech-language pathologist. Your contributions will be vital in delivering effective rehabilitation services that encompass direct and indirect client care across various stages of health, including:

  • Promoting healthy living
  • Supporting recovery
  • Assisting individuals living with illness and disability
  • Providing end-of-life care

This position requires you to work proficiently with both internal and external stakeholders, showcasing professionalism and strong ethical standards in client-centered care and team participation. You will be expected to demonstrate reflective thinking and a commitment to lifelong learning, enhancing both individual and team competencies. Required Qualifications:

A diploma from an accredited post-secondary rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program or equivalent training is required.

Additional Qualifications:

Candidates should possess strong communication and organizational abilities, along with a proven track record of working effectively within an interdisciplinary team. Excellent observational, organizational, and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to convey findings clearly and accurately. Strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills are also required. Certification in CPR (BLS for Health Care Providers Level C) is mandatory. The role demands physical capability to manage heavy and complex patients, which may involve transfers and mobility assistance.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience exceeding three months in an inpatient rehabilitation interdisciplinary team, specifically caring for stroke and brain-injured patients, is highly desirable.
