Senior Category Manager

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Merchant to join our team at Walmart Canada. As a Senior Merchant, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and executing strategies for complex categories, ensuring profit and loss deliverables and selling products that meet customer needs at unbeatable prices.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement category strategies that align with the merchant framework and portfolio strategies, using multiple data sources to inform decision-making.
- Conduct item-level assortment analysis and determine assortment decisions, including coverage of needs analysis for priority sub-categories, vendor optimization, SKU optimization, price ladders, private label/brand strategy, and development.
- Initiate, negotiate, and manage vendor agreements, costs, vendor allowances/terms, quality, and delivery terms to drive supplier performance.
- Responsible for all aspects of marketing for the category, including tab space planning, working with vendors and internal partners, and proofing of final tabs or other media for accuracy.
- Accountable for new item and promotional forecasts, identifying item deletes, managing and communicating markdowns/markups/price adjustments, and developing exit strategies.
- Prepare and lead all line reviews, deliver store-ready modulars and seasonal sets on time, complete promotional planning activities, and conduct modular walk-throughs with senior management.
- Attend trade shows and buying trips to identify new vendors, enhance innovation, and product categories that will influence item assortment, new item creation, pricing, and align to the corporate strategy.
- Responsible for associate engagement, development, and ensuring associates have current development and succession plans in place, providing coaching and direction to Category Team Analysts and/or Associate Merchants and/or Category Advisors (vendor).
- College Certificate or Diploma
- 6-8 years of experience
- Retail Experience
- Commodity Knowledge and Negotiation Skills are an asset
- Experience leading special projects and initiatives
