Senior Financial Data Analyst

Key Responsibilities

The Bank of Canada is dedicated to becoming a premier central bank—dynamic, engaged, and trusted—focused on enhancing the economic landscape of Canada. This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the core of Canada's economy, influencing the financial and economic welfare of all Canadians. You will be motivated, challenged, and inspired to excel in this environment.

We uphold principles of excellence, integrity, and respect, aiming to be innovative and forward-thinking. We welcome diverse perspectives and talents, striving to earn trust through our commitments and transparent communication regarding our policies and actions.

Our comprehensive benefits, defined-benefit pension plan, and flexible work-life balance contribute to our reputation as one of Canada's top employers.

Your Role
As a vital member of the Financial Institutions Statistics (FIS) team, you will provide analytical and subject-matter expertise to support the collection of high-quality data from chartered banks, aligning with the Bank of Canada's requirements and international reporting obligations. You will cultivate and maintain robust expertise in chartered bank financial data, collaborating with internal and external partners to enhance data collection and utilization. By applying sound judgment alongside your experience and knowledge of financial data and technical systems, you will address issues and devise innovative solutions to complex data challenges. You will lead projects and engage in committees where effective communication of data usage is essential for success. Additionally, you will manage relationships effectively, sharing your expertise to uphold the high quality of data services and products.

Specific Duties Include:

  • Leading the development and ongoing maintenance of chartered bank data collection, ensuring compliance with user requirements and reporting standards.
  • Overseeing the collection, validation, and publication of international data submissions to meet the Bank's reporting commitments.
  • Implementing changes to compiling, reporting, and dissemination processes to adapt to the evolving needs of data users.
  • Utilizing strong technical skills to coordinate and respond to complex data inquiries.
  • Representing FIS and the Bank of Canada in subject-matter working groups with other departments, partner agencies, and international organizations.
  • Building and maintaining effective collaborative relationships with internal clients and external partners through strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Maintaining a deep understanding of financial data, industry developments, and reporting standards, while staying informed about advancements in data analytics.

Qualifications for Success
You possess extensive knowledge of chartered bank financial data or accounting practices, as well as data quality assurance methods. You have experience in data compilation and dissemination, along with the ability to create and modify these processes. Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, R) and advanced skills in standard office tools such as the Microsoft Office suite are essential.

Your decision-making is characterized by excellent judgment and meticulous attention to detail. You can clarify complex information for diverse audiences, utilizing clear and persuasive written and oral communication skills. You demonstrate initiative and construct actionable next steps to advance your work and that of your team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fluency in both official languages.
  • Familiarity with the Bank's regulatory data collection processes from chartered banks.
  • Experience with relevant software packages (Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Python, R, SAS, Stata, MATLAB, etc.).
  • Experience in a regulatory reporting environment or data reporting sector of a major bank.
  • In-depth knowledge of Canadian financial market structures and instruments.
  • A relevant master's degree (economics, finance, etc.).

Education and Experience Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in economics, commerce, finance, accounting, computer science, mathematics, or statistics.
  • A minimum of four years of related work experience in analyzing financial data and developing recommendations or reports based on this analysis, with increasing levels of responsibility.

Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Additional Information

  • Language requirement: Bilingualism in English and French is essential, with a minimum starting level of functional proficiency in the second official language. Training may be provided to help achieve a fully functional level.
  • Priority will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents.
  • Security clearance: Eligibility to obtain Reliability status.
  • No relocation assistance will be provided.
  • Please retain a copy of the job poster, as it will no longer be available after the closing date.

Remote/Hybrid Work Model

The Bank promotes flexible work arrangements that empower employees, foster high-performing teams, and support a positive workplace culture. Most employees can telework from home for a significant portion of each month as part of the Bank's hybrid work model, with an expectation of being on-site a minimum of eight days per month to facilitate colleague connections. For this position, if you do not reside within reasonable commuting distance of the office, you may work 100% remotely (within Canada) for the duration of this term.
