Your Responsibilities
As a vital member of the Financial Institutions Statistics (FIS) team, you will provide analytical and subject-matter expertise to support the collection of high-quality chartered bank data, fulfilling the Bank of Canada's requirements and international reporting obligations. You will cultivate and maintain strong subject-matter expertise in chartered bank financial data while collaborating with internal and external partners to enhance data collection and utilization. By combining sound judgment with your experience and knowledge of financial data and technical systems, you will address issues and devise innovative solutions to unique data challenges and requests. You will lead projects and participate in committees where a thorough understanding of data usage is crucial for success. You will effectively manage relationships, sharing and contributing your expertise to uphold the high quality of the data services and products provided.

Key Duties Include:

  • Leading the development and ongoing maintenance of chartered bank data collection, ensuring user requirements and reporting standards/deadlines are met.
  • Overseeing the collection, validation, and publication of international data submissions to fulfill the Bank's reporting commitments.
  • Implementing changes to compiling, reporting, and dissemination programs to adapt to the evolving needs of internal and external data users.
  • Utilizing strong technical skills and knowledge to coordinate and respond to complex data requests.
  • Representing FIS and the Bank of Canada in subject-matter working groups with other internal departments, partner agencies, and international organizations.
  • Building and maintaining effective, collaborative relationships with internal clients and external partners through strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Maintaining a deep understanding of financial data, relevant developments in the financial industry, and reporting standards, as well as staying informed about advancements in data analytics.

Qualifications for Success
You possess extensive knowledge of chartered bank financial data or accounting practices and data quality assurance methods. You have experience in data compilation and dissemination, along with the ability to create and modify these processes. Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, R) and advanced skills with standard office tools such as the Microsoft Office suite are essential.

You demonstrate excellent judgment in decision-making and possess strong attention to detail. Your ability to clarify complex information for diverse audiences is supported by clear and compelling written and oral communication skills. You take initiative and construct actionable next steps to advance your work and your team's objectives, employing sound judgment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fully functional in both official languages.
  • Familiarity with the Bank's processes for regulatory data collection from chartered banks.
  • Experience with relevant software packages (Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Python, R, SAS, Stata, MATLAB, etc.).
  • Experience in a regulatory reporting environment or data reporting area of a major bank.
  • In-depth knowledge of Canadian financial market structures and financial market instruments.
  • Relevant master's degree (economics, finance, etc.).

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in economics, commerce, finance, accounting, computer science, mathematics, or statistics.
  • A minimum of four years of related work experience (i.e., analyzing financial data and developing recommendations or reports based on this analysis), with increasing levels of responsibility.

Additional Information

  • Language requirement: English and French essential (bilingual) with a minimum starting level of functional (level 4) in the second official language. Training may be provided to help reach the required level of fully functional (level 5) in the second official language.

Remote Work / Hybrid Work Model

The Bank offers work arrangements that provide employees with flexibility, enabling high-performing teams and supporting an excellent workplace culture. Most employees can telework from home for a substantial part of each month as part of the Bank's hybrid work model, and they are expected on-site at the Bank location a minimum of eight days per month to foster connections among colleagues. You must reside in Canada and within reasonable commuting distance of the office. For this position, if you do not live within reasonable commuting distance of the office, you will be able to work 100% remotely (within Canada) for the duration of this term.

  • Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $90,535 to $106,512 (job grade 16).
  • The Bank offers an incentive for successfully meeting expectations at 5 to 7% of your base salary. Additional performance pay (3%) is available for those who exceed expectations. Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
  • Flexible and comprehensive benefits allow you to choose the level of health and dental coverage that meets your needs.
  • Extra vacation days (up to five each year) can be purchased to add to your vacation entitlement.
  • Option to join the indexed, defined-benefit pension plan after 24 consecutive months of service.
