Job Summary

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is a vital member of the healthcare team at the Health Sciences Centre, providing high-quality patient care and support to patients and families. As a LPN, you will work under the general supervision of the Manager of Patient Care to deliver professional nursing services, administer prescribed medical treatments, and collaborate with the healthcare team to coordinate patient care and discharge.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide independent nursing services to designated patients, including vital sign monitoring, wound care, and medication administration.
  • Administer prescribed medical treatments, such as injections and infusions, in accordance with established protocols.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop and implement individualized patient care plans.
  • Participate in the coordination of patient care and discharge, ensuring a smooth transition for patients and families.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members to ensure accurate and timely information exchange.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including medical histories, treatment plans, and progress notes.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to patient care and safety.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an approved Licensed Practical Nursing Education program.
  • Current registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Manitoba (CLPNM).
  • Certification in IV Therapy and IV Medication Administration.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
  • Knowledge of the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Manitoba Standards of Practice for Licensed Practical Nurses and the Licensed Practical Nurses Act.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a healthcare setting, preferably in a clinical area.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous customs, traditions, and values.
  • Competency in an Indigenous language.
Working Conditions

The LPN will work in a variety of settings, including patient care units, clinics, and other healthcare facilities. The position requires moderate to heavy physical effort, including standing, walking, and lifting. Rotating shifts and weekends may be required.
