Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Planner to join our team at the City of Kitchener. As a key member of our Development Services department, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of our city through urban planning and development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process and evaluate complex development applications, including Official Plan and zoning bylaw amendments, site plans, and subdivisions.
  • Provide professional planning advice to City Council and leadership team, and lead planning projects that involve multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Review and analyze information required for Staff/Council reports and approvals, and prepare Committee and Council reports.
  • Manage timelines to ensure projects and applications progress within legislated timelines, and coordinate the circulation of applications and receipt of circulation comments.
  • Mediate, negotiate, and facilitate to resolve conflicts between competing interests, and research and analyze information required for Staff/Council reports and approvals.
Requirements
  • 4-year Honours degree in Planning or related field.
  • Full membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners and Ontario Professional Planners Institute as a Registered Professional Planner.
  • A minimum of 4-7 years' relevant experience in planning or a related field, with demonstrated experience managing a broad range of complex and high-profile development applications and projects.
  • Experience providing expert testimony before the Ontario Land Tribunal, and strong analytical, facilitation, and negotiation skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of Planning law, Regional Policy, City Policy, and By-laws, and demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and file management skills, and comfort in high-pressure situations and adaptable to evolving frameworks.
