We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Development Planner to join our team at the Region of Waterloo. As a key member of our Build Waterloo Region team, you will play a critical role in advancing our land portfolio strategy, emphasizing affordable housing, industrial and commercial sites, and strategic regional projects.
Key Responsibilities- Support Land Portfolio Strategy: Under the direction of the Build Waterloo Region team, you will support the advancement of sites for acquisition, redevelopment, or disposition as part of our land portfolio strategy.
- Research and Prepare Development Plans: You will research and prepare development project proposals and plans for Region-owned properties, including site considerations, associated costs, and risks.
- Identify and Assess Development Potential: You will identify and assess sites/properties for development potential, future planning uses, and alignment with strategic initiatives and goals.
- Support Planning Applications: You will support the development of market assessments for development projects, conduct proforma analysis, and lead the preparation, submission, and processing of land use planning applications.
- Administer Technical Studies: You will administer technical studies and assessments for inclusion in project plans and applications, including property appraisals, environmental impact assessments, and concept designs.
- Liaise with Municipal Staff and Review Agencies: You will liaise with municipal staff and review agencies regarding applications and for information and clarification regarding processes and legislation, regulations, and policies.
- Participate in Public Consultation Meetings: You will participate in public consultation meetings, present information, and respond to questions from the public.
- Support Master Planning Processes: You will provide support into Master Planning processes for the redevelopment of lands, including researching environmental features and considerations for economic development, surrounding uses, and proximity to infrastructure.
- Education and Experience: A 4-year Bachelor's degree in Planning or related discipline, plus 5 or more years of related experience.
- Professional Designations: Membership or eligibility for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners and Ontario Professional Planners Institute as a Registered Professional Planner.
- Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of land use planning frameworks, policies, and processes at a municipal and Provincial level, planning theory, research methods, and planning-related legislation.
- Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication, human relations, facilitation, presentation, and negotiation skills to work effectively with stakeholders with competing interests.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, databases, data management programs, GIS, and statistical analysis and visualization tools.
