Job Summary

We are seeking an exceptional Associate Physician to join our team at BC Children's Hospital, providing high-quality care to pediatric trauma patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Round on admitted trauma patients with the surgical team, including faculty, fellows, residents, and allied health members.
  • Attend trauma activations and assist in initial and subsequent patient care.
  • Perform and document admission history and physical examinations, progress notes, discharge summaries, and medication reconciliations.
  • Manage the day-to-day care of trauma patients, including writing medical orders and communicating with other specialties.
  • Order appropriate investigations and follow up on results.
  • Arrange consultations with other departments for patient care.
  • Participate in discharge planning and respond to in-hospital emergencies.
  • Communicate with families, consultant physicians, and referring physicians regarding patient management plans.
  • Perform procedures within the scope of demonstrated competence, including insertion of nasogastric tubes and urinary catheters.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and the institutional Trauma Steering Committee.
  • Provide teaching and supervision for medical students and residents.
Qualifications

We require a medical degree from a school listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools, a minimum of two years of accredited postgraduate training in pediatrics or a surgical discipline, and successful completion of Part 1 of the Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination or Steps 1 through 3 of the United States Medical Licensing Examinations.

Applicants must meet the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia's English language proficiency requirements and be eligible for registration with the CPSBC in the Associate Physician class.
