Job Summary

Regional District of Central Kootenay is seeking a highly skilled Senior Building Official to join our team. As a key technical resource, you will provide leadership and guidance to the Building Department team, ensuring consistent and high-quality building inspection services across the region.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of building officials, providing direction, training, coaching, and performance management as required.
  • Act as a key technical resource, leveraging your expertise in the BC Building Code, RDCK Building Bylaw, and other relevant codes and standards.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Provide advice and guidance on building safety and geotechnical matters.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to resolve complex building inspection issues.
Requirements
  • Significant knowledge and ability to apply BC Building, Plumbing, and Fire Codes, Local Government Bylaws, and Procedures.
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Building Sciences, Science, or trade certification in Building and/or Plumbing.
  • Minimum of 2 years of related supervisory experience.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience providing building inspection services.
  • Level 3 Certification with the Building Officials Association of British Columbia.
  • Level 1 Plumbing Certification with the Building Officials Association of British Columbia.
  • RBO and/or BCQ qualification is desirable.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to read and interpret building plans, maps, legal descriptions, rights of way, easements, and covenants.
  • Ability to recognize and provide advice regarding geotechnical matters related to building safety.
