**Mission**

Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, the Project Superintendent oversees the management and coordination of highway paving projects with respect to operational activities, technical requirements, budget and timelines. The Project Superintendent is required to plan, organize, and direct the highway paving operation. This position is primarily a field role. It will be based out of Crescent Valley, BC.

**Main Responsibilities**

**Health, Safety & Environmental responsibilities**:

- Understand and abide by all OH&S Regulations, Safety Policy, other internal policies and safety directives that may be implemented on specific sites from those that the Company is contracted with to perform the work (ie. owners, general contractors).
- Provide leadership to the crews and work towards a positive safety culture with the field staff and management team. Set a positive example at all times.
- Participate in tailgate safety meetings & hazard assessments as required by OH&S regulations and company policy.
- Review of project sites daily for changing conditions that may negatively affect safety of employees or subcontractors working for the Company.
- Participate in completing Job Site Hazard Assessments as required by OH&S regulations and company policy.
- Carry out site inspections to identify, investigate, correct and document potential environmental and safety problems
- Review project sites regularly to identify environmental concerns in order to avoid negative impacts on the environment. Implement mitigating measures immediately if necessary in order to minimize negative environmental impact.
- Prepare and issue as required reports related to the following: work related accident, incident, environmental incidents and other reports within required timeframes.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Supervise Foremen and staff assigned to the project/operation to ensure compliance to project specifications and benchmarks.
- Coordinate and schedule all work activities related to the projects including materials, equipment, labour and subcontractors.
- Coordinate logistics of mobilization of equipment and crew as required.
- Assist in preparing project master schedule.
- Review and assess work to be completed to ensure schedules are maintained.
- Monitor and update project schedules. Providing ongoing two week look-aheads.
- Participate in weekly scheduling and coordination meetings.
- Liaise with consultants, owners, customers, sub-contractors, and other project stakeholders regarding safety, project progress, scheduling, change orders and other project issues.
- Troubleshoot project concerns such as bad weather, scheduling conflicts, quality control issues, labour issues, contractor and/or client concerns and other unforeseeable matters. Make recommendations to Project Manager on resolution of issues and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain awareness of project cost/budget performance and implement strategies to complete the project within budget.
- Addresses and resolves issues among work crew team members including administering discipline according to company guidelines.
- Establish and maintain good relationships with employees, the client and internal or external resources.
- Must ensure a solid understanding of, and comply with the principles of the company’s Code of Ethics.
- Assist in estimating projects for tender.
- Perform duties safely around mobile equipment and have a high sense of safety awareness while performing work.
- Other duties as required.

**Working conditions**:

- Periodically lift items weighing more than 50 lbs.
- May be required to work long hours in town and out of town assignments.
- Labour work may be required in assisting with the crew when an extra hand is required.
- May be required to do a lot of walking and standing in a noisy environment.
- May be working in inclement weather: rain, snow, heat, cold, and wind.
