As part of our ongoing commitment to excellence, we are seeking a Senior External Communications Advisor to enhance our external communication strategies and manage special projects that align with our strategic objectives and core values. This role is crucial in fostering public relations initiatives aimed at building trust and increasing awareness of our operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement effective communication strategies that support the business goals of Medavie Blue Cross.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for media inquiries, ensuring timely and accurate responses in collaboration with business partners.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with media representatives and healthcare partners to identify opportunities for proactive communication.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of relevant issues and media cycles to inform strategic communication efforts.
  • Monitor regional and national news outlets to identify potential impacts on our organization’s reputation and operations.
  • Create and execute communication plans for business initiatives and operational announcements, ensuring relevant materials are produced.
  • Compile and present monthly reports on media engagement activities.
  • Oversee the creation and editing of content for various communication channels, ensuring alignment with organizational messaging.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to manage brand reputation and generate consistent, relevant content for target audiences.
  • Advise business partners on strategic communication approaches and ensure consistency across all messaging.
  • Support design and translation needs for communication materials, working closely with creative teams.
  • Assist in crisis communication efforts, providing on-call support as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • 5-10 years of progressive experience in strategic communications, with a degree in Communications or Public Relations.
  • Proven track record in delivering communication and media relations strategies in dynamic environments.
  • Experience serving as a spokesperson and managing reputation-related issues.
  • Ability to advise senior leadership on communication strategies that meet business needs.
  • Professional handling of sensitive and confidential matters.
  • Strong team player with a focus on collaboration and results.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Adept at transforming complex information into clear, engaging content.
  • Excellent time management skills, capable of juggling multiple priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in multi-stakeholder settings.
  • Self-motivated and resourceful, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and travel occasionally.
  • Bilingualism in French and English is an asset but not a requirement.
