The Senior External Communications Advisor plays a vital role in shaping our external communication strategies and managing special projects that align with Medavie Blue Cross's strategic objectives and core values. This position is essential for enhancing public relations initiatives aimed at fostering trust and increasing awareness of our operations.

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Communications and Public Affairs, the successful candidate will collaborate with various departments within Medavie Blue Cross. The ideal candidate will possess a strategic mindset and thrive in a dynamic environment, demonstrating expertise in building relationships and managing media interactions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies that support Medavie Blue Cross's business goals.
  • Serve as the primary contact for media inquiries, ensuring timely and accurate responses.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with media representatives and healthcare partners to identify opportunities for proactive communication.
  • Monitor regional and national news to identify potential issues affecting the organization’s reputation.
  • Create and execute effective communication plans for business initiatives and operational announcements.
  • Produce monthly reports detailing media relations activities and outcomes.
  • Oversee the creation and editing of content for various communication channels, ensuring consistency and clarity.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to manage brand reputation and generate relevant content for target audiences.
  • Provide strategic communication advice to business partners, ensuring alignment between internal and external messaging.
  • Assist in crisis communication efforts, including on-call support as needed.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5-10 years of experience in strategic communications, with a degree in Communications or Public Relations.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute media relations strategies in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience as a spokesperson and in managing reputation and issues effectively.
  • Strong advisory skills for senior leadership, addressing complex business needs.
  • Excellent written communication skills, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Ability to distill complex information into engaging and accessible content.
  • Exceptional time management skills, capable of balancing multiple priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience working with diverse teams.
  • A proactive problem-solver who works well independently and collaboratively.
  • Flexibility to work outside standard hours and willingness to travel occasionally.
  • Bilingualism in French and English is an asset but not mandatory.
