As part of our dedicated team, we are looking for a Senior External Communications Advisor who will play a vital role in shaping our external communication strategies and managing special projects that align with our organizational goals and values. This position is essential for enhancing public relations efforts aimed at fostering trust and increasing awareness of our operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies that support the business objectives of Medavie Blue Cross.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for media inquiries, collaborating closely with internal stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate responses.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with media representatives and health care partners, identifying opportunities for proactive communication.
  • Monitor regional and national news outlets to stay informed about issues that may affect our organization’s reputation and operations.
  • Create and execute effective communication plans for business initiatives and operational announcements, producing relevant materials in collaboration with internal and external partners.
  • Prepare monthly reports detailing media relations activities and outcomes.
  • Oversee the creation and editing of content for various communication channels, ensuring alignment with organizational messaging.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across Medavie to manage brand reputation and generate engaging content for targeted audiences.
  • Provide strategic communication counsel to business partners, ensuring consistency between external and internal messaging.
  • Support crisis communication efforts as needed, including being available for on-call coverage.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5-10 years of experience in a strategic communications role, complemented by a degree in Communications or Public Relations.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and executing communication and media relations strategies in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience serving as a spokesperson and managing reputation-related issues effectively.
  • Proven ability to advise senior leadership on communication strategies that meet business needs.
  • Strong written communication skills, with a keen eye for detail and the ability to distill complex information into clear, engaging content.
  • Excellent time management skills, capable of handling multiple priorities and meeting tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and build relationships across various stakeholders.
  • Flexibility to work outside standard hours and willingness to travel occasionally.
  • Bilingualism in French and English is an asset, though not required.
