Reporting directly to the Director of Reporting and Compliance, the Financial Compliance Manager plays a pivotal role in delivering a wide range of services related to financial adherence and assessment.

This position entails supervising compliance evaluations, assessing functions, and ensuring accountability for public resources. In this capacity, you will be key in fostering an efficient financial atmosphere with robust internal controls while providing strategic guidance to a team of 11 finance and administrative professionals distributed throughout the province.

This role empowers ministry management and personnel to meet their financial duties and commitments regarding payment processing and cash/revenue transactions, maintaining suitable internal controls, and adhering to relevant policies and procedures.

The primary responsibilities of this position include:

  • Regularly assessing and refining practices and internal controls to mitigate the risk of fraud and inaccuracies in everyday financial transactions, ensuring the implementation of best practices.
  • Designing and executing processes and procedures that enable program staff to accurately and efficiently manage payments to clients and vendors, handle revenue, and perform associated financial functions.
  • Leading the Financial Compliance Team and contributing to operational planning initiatives.
  • Fostering effective working relationships among team members and mentoring them to cultivate strong collaborations with divisional, program, and corporate staff.
  • Monitoring and assessing financial functions to guarantee that ministry risks are mitigated, there is accountability for public resources, and financial activities comply with legislative requirements.
  • Creating programs and implementing processes to ensure program staff can accurately and efficiently manage payments to clients and vendors, handle revenue, and perform related financial functions.
  • Providing leadership to the Financial Compliance Team and engaging in operational planning processes.
  • Continuously reviewing and enhancing practices and internal controls to reduce the risk of fraud and errors in daily financial transactions, ensuring best practices are in place.
  • Ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of ministry financial and management control systems, compliance with laws, policies, and procedures, and the accuracy and reliability of internal management and performance reporting.
