About the Role

As a Technical Risk Management Specialist at 09 Irving Oil Limited, you will play a critical role in ensuring the company's operational risk management process is effective and efficient. Your primary responsibility will be to facilitate risk assessments and support operational areas in utilizing the company's risk matrix in a consistent manner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coach and support engineers and operational teams in the fundamentals of risk assessment and the use of the Irving Oil Risk Matrix to identify, categorize, manage, and report on risks within their areas.
  • Facilitate discussions for the development of mitigation plans to address identified high risks.
  • Use risk assessment software to produce technical reports, memos, and other documentation, and record recommendations and applicable information.
  • Audit risk assessment processes for compliance with the process and identify areas for improvement.
  • Take ownership of various projects from conception to completion with minimal supervision.
  • Manage complex tasks and functions as required.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of identified controls or mitigations to ensure the required level of risk mitigation has been achieved.
  • Work effectively with Senior Leaders, Directors, and Managers to minimize risk.
  • Manage and enhance the company-wide risk management process as required.
Requirements
  • University degree in Safety and Risk Engineering, with a sound knowledge of complex engineering processes and facets of engineering.
  • Minimum of 8-12 years' experience in engineering, organizational experience, and experience at a leading engineering level would be an asset.
  • Experience in conducting risk assessments and using a risk matrix is essential. HAZOP Chairman experience would be an asset.
  • Must have their PEng (Professional Engineer) designation.
  • Technical Safety Engineering experience would be an asset.
