Senior Project Manager, Civic Buildings

The City of Burnaby is seeking a highly skilled Senior Project Manager to lead the delivery of major civic building projects. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for overseeing the design and construction of large-scale facility projects, from schematic design to post-construction.
Key Responsibilities- Lead a portfolio of major civic building projects, including vendor selection and management of design and construction phases.
- Prepare terms of reference for design and construction proposals from external consultants and contractors.
- Evaluate and select proposals for major projects.
- Review and approve architectural and engineering design and work performed by consultants and ensure conformance of contractor's work to project's scope, city standards and specifications.
- Prepare and review specifications, cost estimates, plans and contract documents related to design and construction of major civic building projects and renovations and repairs of major facilities.
- Conduct field inspections.
- Monitor and evaluate the work of project team subordinates, consultants, and contractors.
- Review and approve change orders.
- Lead and resolve contract disputes.
- Prepare complex technical reports for Committees and Council.
- Establish and monitor project scopes, schedules and budgets and reporting on these metrics to senior management.
- Master's degree in Architecture, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in managing design and construction of large-scale facility projects in a leadership role.
- Thorough knowledge of architectural design, facility planning, engineering and construction principles and practices.
- Knowledge of BC Building Code, the rules, regulations, and policies governing the construction industry.
- Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) guidelines and standards.
- Ability to direct the design and construction of a variety of major civic buildings and facilities.
- Act as project manager.
- Oversight, scheduling, and direction of the work of project staff, architectural and engineering consultants, and contractors.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of internal, external, and stakeholder contacts.
- Work independently and within a team environment.
- Problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to establish priorities and accomplish objectives in a timely manner.
