Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada City of Burnaby Full time
Senior Project Manager, Civic Buildings
Competition No:
Duration: Temporary Full Time
Salary: $120,478/year
Last Updated:

The City of Burnaby, as one of British Columbia's largest municipalities, is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for its residents. We are in search of individuals who share our commitment to community engagement, integrity, and innovation in public service.

We are pleased to announce an opening for the position of Senior Project Manager for Civic Building Projects. Reporting directly to the Senior Manager of Civic Building Projects, you will oversee a diverse portfolio of civic building initiatives, primarily concentrating on tenant enhancements, from initial design phases through to post-construction, including vendor selection and management throughout the design and construction processes.

This pivotal role involves supervising multiple project teams, including internal project personnel, architectural and engineering consultants, as well as contractors. Your responsibilities will encompass the preparation of terms of reference for design and construction proposals, evaluating and selecting proposals for significant projects, reviewing and approving architectural and engineering designs, and ensuring that contractor work aligns with project specifications, city standards, and scope. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Drafting and assessing specifications, cost estimates, plans, and contract documents pertinent to major civic building projects.
  2. Conducting site inspections and overseeing the work of project team members, consultants, and contractors.
  3. Reviewing and authorizing change orders while leading contract dispute resolutions.
  4. Creating detailed technical reports for Committees and Council.
  5. Establishing and monitoring project scopes, timelines, budgets, and providing updates to senior management.
  6. Guiding the City's departments on agreements involving the City, consultants, and contractors.

To qualify for this role, candidates should possess a degree in Architecture or Engineering, along with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in managing the design and construction of large-scale facility projects and tenant improvements in a leadership capacity, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. A comprehensive understanding of architectural design, space and facility planning, engineering and construction principles, as well as familiarity with the BC Building Code and Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) guidelines is essential. Required skills include:

  1. Capability to lead the design and construction of various civic buildings and facilities.
  2. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  3. Ability to foster and maintain effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  4. Proficiency in MS Office, ERP, and Project Management software.

This is a Temporary Full-Time position for a two-year term. We are committed to promoting an inclusive and diverse workforce that reflects the vibrant community we serve.

We appreciate all candidates for their interest; however, only those selected for further consideration will be contacted.
