Employment Type: Temporary Full-Time
As one of the prominent municipalities in British Columbia, the City of Burnaby is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for all its residents.
We are looking for dedicated professionals who are enthusiastic about community development, uphold values of integrity and respect, and bring innovative solutions to the services provided to our citizens.
This is an exceptional opportunity for a Lead Project Manager in Civic Infrastructure Projects. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Civic Infrastructure Projects, you will oversee a diverse portfolio of civic infrastructure initiatives, primarily focusing on tenant enhancements, from initial design phases through to post-construction, including vendor selection and management of both design and construction stages.
This leadership role involves supervising multiple project teams, which includes the efforts of internal project personnel, architectural and engineering consultants, as well as contractors.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Evaluating and selecting proposals for significant projects;
- Reviewing and approving architectural and engineering designs;
- Ensuring that contractor work aligns with project scope, municipal standards, and specifications;
- Preparing and reviewing specifications, cost estimates, plans, and contract documents for major civic infrastructure projects;
- Conducting field inspections and overseeing the work of project team members, consultants, and contractors;
- Reviewing and approving change orders and facilitating contract dispute resolutions;
- Preparing detailed technical reports for Committees and Council;
- Establishing and monitoring project scopes, timelines, budgets, and reporting these metrics to senior management;
- Leading inter-departmental collaborations regarding agreements between the City, consultants, and contractors.
Qualifications: A degree in Architecture or Engineering, coupled with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in managing the design and construction of large-scale facility projects and tenant enhancements in a leadership capacity, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
The role necessitates a comprehensive understanding of architectural design, spatial and facility planning, engineering and construction principles, as well as familiarity with the BC Building Code and Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) guidelines.
Key skills include:
- Ability to direct the design and construction of various civic buildings and facilities;
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written;
- Proficiency in MS Office, ERP, and Project Management software.
This is a Temporary Full-Time position for a two-year duration.
At the City of Burnaby, we are committed to promoting an inclusive and diverse workforce that authentically reflects the vibrant community we serve.
