JOB SUMMARY

The Materials Delivery unit is responsible for materials delivery programs, services and initiatives within and across the Ottawa Public Library (OPL), including: efficient and reliable sorting of library materials and automated sorting system functions; timely delivery of internal and contracted library materials to support the OPL's 33 Branches, mobile operations and customer service; and daily delivery of internal mail and small moves of furniture and equipment between branches as required.

You are responsible for organizing, sorting and staging library books and other materials; operating the Automated Materials Handling (AMH) equipment; and assisting in the loading/unloading of materials delivery vehicles.

Work is performed within the context of the policies and framework of the Library corporate culture as embodied in the Mission Statement, Core Values, Customer Experience Guidelines and the Canadian Federation of Library Association position statements on Intellectual Freedom and Diversity and Inclusion, with particular emphasis on providing customer service excellence.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of Grade 9

Less than 6 months of experience in organizing and staging materials in a warehouse environment

KNOWLEDGE
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques for sorting and staging of materials within a warehouse environment.
  • General knowledge of Ottawa Public Library policies and procedures related to health and safety.
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.
COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • To sort and organize library holdings in accordance with prescribed warehouse systems and procedures.
  • Ability to maneuver book carts and lift boxes up to 50 pounds
  • Use tact, discretion and confidentiality.
  • Respond to changing priorities as directed.
  • Customer service orientation, including the use of tact, discretion and confidentiality.
