Role Overview:

The Clinical Supervisor for the Practical Nursing and Personal Support Worker Programs is responsible for:

Facilitating critical learning experiences for PN/PSW students that enhance their analytical skills and decision-making abilities in a challenging environment. Supporting students in achieving their PSW-practice learning goals during clinical placements.

Key Responsibilities:

The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

Oversight of Student Care:

Monitoring and guiding client care delivered by students in accordance with established educational standards and institutional policies. Being prepared to intervene in situations where client conditions change unexpectedly or when students require assistance in managing complex medical scenarios. Adjusting clinical assignments and organizational strategies to address unforeseen circumstances. Collaborating with faculty and fellow clinical supervisors to create an effective learning atmosphere.

Providing Learning Opportunities:

Selecting appropriate clients for student care based on their skill levels and competencies. Clarifying course expectations and performance standards. Fostering positive relationships with healthcare team members, students, clients, and their families.

Evaluating Student Performance:

Adhering to established learning outcomes and utilizing assessment tools as directed by the course instructor. Documenting observations of student performance and providing constructive feedback. Engaging with clinical agency staff to gather insights regarding student performance, especially in cases of concern. Collaborating with the clinical coordinator/instructor to assess whether students have met the required learning outcomes.

Required Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess:

A minimum of a 2-year diploma in Practical Nursing. A current, unrestricted RN or RPN license with the College of Nurses of Ontario. At least 2 years of recent clinical experience in either acute or long-term care settings. Availability for varying shifts, including weekends. Basic proficiency in computer skills. A demonstrated commitment to human rights, equity, diversity, and inclusion, with the ability to effectively engage with diverse groups.

The successful candidate must also meet clinical clearance requirements and maintain compliance throughout the duration of employment. These requirements include:

A clear Vulnerable Sector Police Check. Up-to-date immunizations. A valid Tuberculin Skin Test. Recommended flu vaccination. Valid Mask Fit certification. Completion of Gentle Persuasive Approach training. Active CNO Registration (RPN/RN/NP) with no restrictions. Completion of CNO Reflect Before You Post webinar and quiz. One-time completion of the Prep LTC and OWL preceptor course.
