Position Title: Return-to-Work Specialist (Hybrid)

Role Overview:

Lead return-to-work (RTW) initiatives for cases at risk, ensuring effective and sustainable outcomes through tailored service coordination and a customer-focused approach. Drive optimal results and advocate for best practices in RTW through innovative and specialized service delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide guidance to injured or ill individuals and their employers regarding the RTW process, educating both parties on their rights and responsibilities.
  • Identify barriers to RTW and recommend interventions to facilitate positive outcomes.
  • Assist in developing RTW plans for individuals, with or without accommodations, to reintegrate them into their pre-injury roles.
  • Offer expert advice and vocational rehabilitation planning to support individuals and employers in coordinating RTW efforts, which may include accommodations or transitions to new roles.

Major Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Promote WSIB's Return-to-Work Brand:
  • Act as a representative and advocate for WSIB's RTW Program, aligning with professional guidelines from organizations such as the International Social Security Association (ISSA).
  • Recommend and apply evidence-based practices that lead to optimal RTW outcomes while promoting injury and illness prevention.
  • Maintain professional qualifications and pursue the Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP) certification within the first two years of employment.
  • Educate and Support:
  • Inform workplace parties about disability management, RTW principles, and the benefits of early and safe reintegration.
  • Evaluate case needs through a holistic approach, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to determine the best RTW strategies.
  • Plan and Communicate:
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders to assess RTW plans and goals, providing guidance to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Facilitate discussions and resolve issues related to the RTW process, ensuring accountability for implementation.
  • Manage and Sustain RTW Plans:
  • Establish a follow-up system to monitor progress and ensure plans remain focused on desired outcomes.
  • Coordinate case conferences to review RTW options and address barriers, working towards optimal solutions.
  • Documentation and Compliance:
  • Implement effective documentation practices to manage caseloads and ensure timely responses to inquiries.
  • Maintain a proven case management system to handle changing priorities effectively.
  • Additional Duties:
  • Perform other related responsibilities as required.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • A university degree with a focus in a relevant specialty.
  • Certification as a Disability Management Professional (CDMP) or commitment to obtain within the first two years of employment.

Experience:

  • A minimum of one and a half years of experience in return-to-work, disability management, vocational rehabilitation, or related fields.
