Since its inception, Blakes, in collaboration with CIBC, has been dedicated to facilitating the transition of seasoned women lawyers back into the legal profession after a significant hiatus. This initiative offers a structured, paid opportunity designed to enhance the professional journey of women lawyers re-entering the workforce.

Program Overview

The initiative spans a duration of ten months, allowing participants to gain valuable experience at a prominent Canadian law firm while also engaging with a sophisticated in-house legal team at CIBC. This program aims to empower women lawyers by providing them with a platform to demonstrate their skills and expand their professional network.

Program Structure

Participants will begin their journey at Blakes and will alternate their time between Blakes and CIBC Legal. The program is designed to accommodate a hybrid work model, incorporating both in-person and remote work arrangements, in alignment with the current operational policies of both organizations.

Flexibility in work hours will be a key feature of the program, and participants will receive coaching support to ensure their success throughout the initiative.

Eligibility Criteria

This program is specifically tailored for women who meet the following criteria: (1) possess a minimum of three years of experience in a corporate/commercial or transaction-oriented legal practice, (2) have been away from the workforce for at least two years, (3) aspire to return to their legal careers, and (4) hold eligibility to practice law in Ontario.
