Key Responsibilities:
The primary duty of the selected candidate is to design and deliver a theoretically and methodologically robust course at the university level, adhering to the outlined course objectives. In alignment with a technology-enhanced educational framework, the Adjunct Instructor will employ a variety of inclusive teaching methodologies and assessment strategies. The instructor will be responsible for preparing, presenting, and evaluating all course materials and assignments, as well as providing support and guidance to students throughout the course duration.
This role is part of the collective bargaining unit represented by the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and will be governed by the terms and conditions set forth in the collective agreement between the institution and PSAC. Candidates must confirm their legal eligibility to work in Canada for the entire contract period.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of effective teaching, demonstrating a strong aptitude for instruction at the pre-service and/or grades 7-12 educational levels.
Essential Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of grades 7 to 12 science education within the Ontario context;
- Understanding of core content aligned with the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) accreditation standards;
- Demonstrated expertise in curricular and pedagogical design, educational research, and assessment that incorporates various digital technologies;
- Ability to integrate learning and teaching theories into instructional practices, including task design and development;
- Experience in implementing innovative and inclusive teaching strategies;
- Capacity for critical reflection on personal teaching practices and adaptability as necessary;
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment;
- Strong communication skills, fostering effective relationships with faculty, staff, and students;
- Experience in teaching that encourages reflection, critical thinking, creativity, innovation, problem-solving, and independence;
- Openness to diverse perspectives in the teaching and learning of general sciences;
- Demonstrated understanding of the learning and development processes of novice educators.
Educational Background:
- A bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline related to life sciences, biological, chemical, or physical sciences is required;
- A Master's degree in Education or a related field is required;
- Membership in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers is advantageous;
- A PhD in education or a relevant field of study is considered an asset.
Experience:
- Demonstrated success in teaching science at the pre-service and/or grades 7-12 levels;
- Proven experience in integrating technology as effective teaching tools for learning in the classroom;
- Evidence-based or research-informed teaching practices;
- Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) is beneficial;
- Experience in online teaching environments is an asset.
