Position Overview:
The Faculty of Law at the University of Toronto is seeking a dedicated Research Associate to engage in significant research and scholarship in the field of Indigenous law. This role is part of the Junior Indigenous Scholars Program, which aims to nurture aspiring legal scholars through mentorship and hands-on experience.

Opportunity Details:
The selected candidate will have the chance to work closely with Professor John Borrows, a leading figure in Indigenous Law, gaining invaluable insights and guidance. The position includes access to research resources and integration into the academic community, with opportunities to present research findings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct in-depth research on legal issues affecting Indigenous peoples and produce a scholarly article aimed at publication in a peer-reviewed journal.
- Engage actively in the academic life of the Faculty, participating in workshops, seminars, and conferences.
- Assist in teaching responsibilities related to Indigenous Law, including the possibility of leading a course.
Qualifications:
Educational Background:
- Applicants must hold an LL.B. or J.D. degree; an LLM is advantageous.
Experience Requirements:
- Demonstrated research experience in Indigenous law or related areas, through academic projects or theses.
- A strong academic record indicating potential for a successful career in legal scholarship.
- Genuine interest in Indigenous issues, culture, and community engagement.
Skills and Competencies:
- Exceptional research, writing, and analytical abilities.
- Strong organizational skills with the capacity to manage multiple priorities.
- Self-motivated and proactive in approach to work.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
