Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Research Director to lead our community-driven research initiatives within the Ontario Federation of Indigenous Friendship Centres (OFIFC). The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic research priorities, overseeing research projects, and ensuring that our research goals align with the needs of our communities and the USAI framework.

Key Responsibilities
  • Research Leadership
    • Develop and implement strategic research priorities that align with the needs of our communities and the USAI framework.
    • Oversee research projects, including planning, design, implementation, review, and evaluation.
    • Ensure that research goals are resourced and meet the needs of our communities.
  • Research Management
    • Supervise a team of researchers and provide guidance on research methodologies and best practices.
    • Direct the gathering, classifying, and assessing of studies, reports, and recommendations.
    • Ensure that research practices are culturally grounded and relevant to the needs of our communities.
  • Community Engagement
    • Develop and maintain relationships with community partners and stakeholders.
    • Engage with community members to understand their research needs and priorities.
    • Ensure that research initiatives are culturally sensitive and relevant to the needs of our communities.
  • Policy Development
    • Develop and implement research policies and procedures that align with the needs of our communities and the USAI framework.
    • Ensure that research practices are consistent with organizational and institutional priorities.
  • Reporting and Evaluation
    • Prepare reports and briefs on research findings and recommendations.
    • Evaluate the effectiveness of research initiatives and make recommendations for improvement.
Requirements
  • Education
    • PhD in a research-related discipline, preferably Indigenous Studies or social science.
  • Experience
    • Minimum 5 years' experience in a Senior Research position, preferably in an Indigenous organization.
    • Experience working with Indigenous communities and organizations.
  • Skills
    • Excellent leadership and management skills.
    • Strong research and analytical skills.
    • Ability to work effectively with community partners and stakeholders.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
