Position Overview

Join Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) as a Manager of Surgical Scheduling and Optimization.

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a Manager of Surgical Scheduling and Optimization to be part of our dedicated team. Reporting to the Operations Director of Surgical Services, this role will oversee the allocation of surgical schedules, management of waitlists, and analysis of data to ensure compliance with health policies.

The manager will play a crucial role in enhancing operational processes for Surgical Programs and associated facilities. This position will lead the integration of surgical programs with health information systems and collaborate with various stakeholders to improve operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Finalizes daily operating room schedules across various facilities.
  • Manages the reallocation of operating room time to enhance utilization.
  • Supervises the surgical booking team and oversees scheduling operations.
  • Ensures compliance with health management priorities and regional initiatives.
  • Facilitates effective communication between surgical programs and healthcare providers.
  • Oversees error correction and waitlist management processes.
  • Provides leadership and mentorship to team members, addressing performance issues as necessary.
  • Develops training programs for surgical staff to enhance understanding of operational strategies.
  • Coordinates with other facilities on waitlist management priorities.
  • Assists in identifying strategic directions related to surgical scheduling.
  • Stays informed on current surgical trends through continuous learning and professional development.
  • Performs additional duties as required.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

  • Master's degree in Health Administration, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Five years of relevant experience in a healthcare setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in strategic planning and system implementation in a multi-site healthcare environment.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships that foster a positive work environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare administration and operational planning.
  • Experience in budget development and financial analysis.
  • Proven project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects.

  • Strong report writing and business case proposal skills.
