About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Clinical Education Specialist to join our team at Homewood Health. As a key member of our education team, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality education and training programs to our staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Education and Training: Develop and deliver comprehensive education and training programs for our staff, including workshops, in-services, and lectures.
  • Needs Assessment: Collaborate with the Clinical Education Manager and National Management Team to assess and meet the educational needs of our staff.
  • Teaching Strategies: Demonstrate a range of teaching strategies, including one-to-one, group, and lecture situations, to engage and educate our staff.
  • Program Development: Work with other members of the health team to develop, implement, and evaluate education programs that enhance our professional services.
  • Knowledge and Expertise: Demonstrate advanced knowledge of the DSM-V classification system and its application in clinical teaching sessions.
  • Research and Literature: Conduct literature reviews and interpret and communicate findings applicable to mental health and addictions, and practice issues.
  • Presentations: Present at workshops, symposia, and conferences to share knowledge and expertise with colleagues and industry professionals.
  • Program Evaluation: Develop, organize, and implement revisions in services and programs in accordance with organizational needs.
  • Staff Supervision: Direct and evaluate staff performance and requirements for effective and efficient clinical care and programming.
  • Leadership: Supervise staff, including participation in recruitment, hiring, orientation, and training.
  • Clinical Meetings: Direct regular clinical meetings with staff and provide direction and clinical supervision.
  • Orientation: Facilitate orientation of new staff.
  • Education Materials: Create staff and patient/family educational materials.
  • Unit Activity Boards: Develop and maintain unit activity boards.
Requirements
  • Regulated Health Professional: Must be a regulated health professional (RN) with registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Mental Health Certification: Mental health certification is preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years' experience in an applicable regulated health profession, with mental health and addictions experience being an asset.
  • Leadership Experience: Minimum of 3 years' experience in a leadership role.
  • Crisis Management: Ability to effectively manage crisis situations and deal with acutely ill patients with comorbid disorders.
  • Knowledge and Expertise: Current knowledge and experience of assessment and treatment of psychiatric disorders, including prevention of suicide and management of aggressive behavior.
  • Training and Development: Previous training in boundaries, suicide awareness, physical assessments, and medication administration is an asset.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to work independently and as a team.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of the Mental Health Act (MHA), CNO Standards, documentation standards (NANDA, SBAR, MSE), Pathophysiology, Pharmacology, and DSM-V.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient with Microsoft Office and LMS.
  • Leadership and Coaching: Excellent coaching, mentoring, and leadership skills.
  • Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills, customer services, and etiquette.
  • Writing and Presentation Skills: Effective writing and presentation skills.
  • Partnerships: Experience developing, implementing, and sustaining partnerships.
